Mumbai Indians officials discussing venue plans at a cricket stadium

MI blocks RCB from using DY Patil Stadium for IPL 2026 home games

February 11, 2026

Mumbai Indians (MI) have refused permission to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to host their IPL 2026 home games at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, sources tracking developments said. MI has reportedly told RCB to exhaust other options first, citing proximity to its own base at the Wankhede Stadium and wider league concerns.

Proximity and territorial concerns drive MI’s stance

Officials at MI believe allowing RCB to use DY Patil could blur home territory boundaries, as the stadium falls within the same catchment region as Wankhede, their long-established home ground. “If a franchise wants to establish a home base not far from another’s core venue, it needs approval to go ahead,” a source said. MI questioned why RCB were focusing solely on DY Patil instead of exploring other available options across India.

RCB now explores other venues for 2026 season

With DY Patil no longer an option, RCB officials have intensified discussions with other state associations. The franchise has reportedly held talks with the Chhattisgarh government to host at least two home matches in Raipur. Indore specifically the Holkar Stadium has also emerged as a strong candidate for hosting the remaining fixtures.

Safety upgrades ongoing at original home ground

Meanwhile, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru RCB’s traditional home is undergoing upgrades following the tragic stampede during last season’s celebrations, which has prevented it from hosting major matches. Work is underway on the 17 recommendations outlined by the Justice D’Cunha committee, with officials hoping improvements will allow a return in due course.

Wider impact on IPL 2026 scheduling and strategy

RCB’s venue reshuffle comes at a crucial planning stage ahead of the IPL 2026 Schedule & Results, and could affect travel, preparation, and fan outreach strategies for the franchise. Meanwhile, teams and officials continue to work with the IPL 2026 Teams framework as final scheduling decisions approach.
